Notre histoire · Our story
A royal habit, since 1533
Legend has it the macaron arrived in France in 1533, when Catherine de’ Medici of Italy married King Henry II. Her pastry chefs brought the recipe with them: almonds, egg white and sugar, then known as “priest’s bellybutton”.
Macarons were served at the Duke of Joyeuse’s wedding in 1581, and in 1682 Louis XIV welcomed guests to Versailles with them. Until the revolution in 1789, they were a treat for royals only.
Nous perpétuons la tradition. We carry on the tradition, one tiny, perfect morsel at a time.
